Historical Society of Princeton
The Society maintains a museum and library dedicated to collecting and interpreting the history of Princeton, New Jersey. Founded in 1938, HSP convened meetings of historically minded Princeton residents interested in collecting objects for educational purposes. These gatherings took place in members' homes until, in 1967, the Society leased Bainbridge House (pictured above) from Princeton University and established a permanent headquarters. The first floor was originally interpreted as a house museum. In 1992, extensive renovations enabled HSP to intall rotating exhibitions on Princeton and New Jersey history. HSP currently maintains an extensive archive of manuscripts, photographs, and ephemera, as well as a substantial library and collections of furniture, costumes, and paintings.
